'Did she just play the most unjustified race card of all time?': BB viewers shocked as Sukhvinder Javeed claims argument over her hiding alcohol was sparked by her Asian ethnicity

The current series of Big Brother was designed to highlight the diversity in Britain and features housemates of different ages and ethnicity from across the country.

However, despite the multi-cultural theme of the series, Sukhvinder Javeed, 38, claimed that herself and husband Imran, 39, were being ostracized for their Asian heritage, leaving viewers at home shocked.

In scenes from Saturday night's show, the married couple discussed the dynamics of the house as they reasoned that their opinions on their fellow housemates were changing constantly.

Viewers were shocked, however, when Imran pointed out: 'It is a reflection of life outside. I've got my Nigerian sisters here, you've got us, and everyone else is what, white? You can definitely see the cliques.'

Nodding her head, Sukhvinder added: 'Why do I have to break that down? How much effort do I have to make?'

Later in the episode the subject of race was raised again as the housemates turned on Sukhvinder for hiding a bottle of wine.

After Imran informed his wife that her actions had not gone down too well with the rest of the house, she exploded, screaming at him and threatening to go home.

Left in tears, she was comforted by fellow housemate, Raphael Korine, who reasoned: 'You've faced adversity and you need to remember that you know that.'

Still sobbing, Sukhvinder sighed: 'I don't want to live in a world where there's war. I don't want to live in a world where people segregate me for the colour of my skin.'

Sukhvinder is an entrepreneur from Leeds and was raised in a Sikh family before marrying Imran in a Muslim ceremony aged just 17.

No doubt bringing some flavour into the house, the contestant professed her bluntness is the best element of her personality and her impatience the worst.

Imran was raised in a strict Muslim family and met Sukhvinder at the age of eight in school. He revealed their relationship was frowned upon and they would meet in private.

Determined to show the UK what a 'Modern Muslim' is he explained ahead of entering the house: 'I want to show my children how to be a good person.

'I want to be an example to the next generation as well and let them know it’s not all about social media.'

This is not the first time Big Brother has been caught in racial controversy.

Last year, during the January season of Celebrity Big Brother, John Partridge was accused of making racist remarks towards housemate Tiffany Pollard.

Following a row, the former EastEnders star said: '[Tiffany] only wants to come to talk to us now cos she’s hungry and wants some chicken.'

After John's comments, viewers took to Twitter to accuse the actor of being racist, with Ofcom also receiving 41 complaints of bullying.

Celebrity Big Brother released a statement shortly after the explosive episode aired, confirming Megan had been disciplined for her out-of-order behaviour.

'Megan received a formal warning this morning for her behaviour last night,' the tweet read.

'I just don't like f***ing weird conversations about f***ing black people. It's p***ing me off actually.'

She asked: 'Why have you got a tag that you could come across as being a racist person?'

The broadcaster and talk show host responded: 'I don't know, I've never heard that before.'

He added: 'I don't think I am known for that. Am I known for that? I don't know. I really don't know. I've been one of the judges of the British curry awards for 10 years.'
